Triumph/TR3A Projects:Door Handle Stops
This happened on both doors of my car, so I'm going to guess the problem isn't uncommon, but fortunately it's easy to fix.

too high
lock washer had come off, and the blocking pin on the handle (where my finger is pointing) had come out far enough to get around the door metal.
the blocking pin now properly comes into contact with the door
